Aluminium

Aluminium surfaces can be cleaned with a mild soap solution and a soft cloth. Avoid using abrasive or acidic detergents and rough sponges, as these can cause scratches on the surface. To prevent oxidation and corrosion, aluminium components can be treated with a special aluminium cleaner. In the Q-railing range we have a long-term protective spray called the Q-protector. It cleans the components after they have been mounted and forms an effective protective layer against fingerprints and the effects of the weather.

Glass

Glass can be treated with a mild soap solution or a special glass cleaner. For stubborn stains, try a mixture of vinegar and water before wiping the glass with a soft, lint-free cloth or chamois leather. Avoid abrasive detergents or scouring pads, as these will scratch the glass surface.

Stainless steel

Clean your stainless steel surfaces with a mild soap solution or a special stainless steel cleaner. To remove superficial scratches, you can use very fine hand sanding pads (available in the Q-railing range). Here, too, you should avoid abrasive cleaners, as they can scratch the surface.

Our Q-railing range includes the cleaning and protective sprays Q-ultra-clean and Q-cleaner. Q-ultra-clean is used to clean the railing components after installation and removes stubborn dirt and surface corrosion. It also reinforces or renews the protective layer of the stainless steel. For regular cleaning and care, we recommend using Q-cleaner.

Further information

Before you start, please check whether the detergent or the method you plan to use is suitable for the material you want to clean. Avoid the use of sharp objects or aggressive chemicals that could damage the surfaces.

Maintenance instructions for railings and guardrails made of glass, aluminium and stainless steel:

  • Regularly check the condition of the railing, in particular for cracks, breaks, signs of corrosion, loosening or damage.
  • Clean the railing according to instructions to remove dirt, dust and other contaminants.
  • Check the mountings, connections and seals and ensure that everything is secure, stable and in proper working condition.
  • We recommend an annual inspection of the railing. More frequent maintenance may be required in high traffic areas or where there are special environmental conditions.
  • Abide by local regulations and safety standards when performing maintenance and inspection.
  • Ensure that all repair and maintenance work is carried out by qualified personnel.
  • Keep a record of all maintenance measures and results in order to maintain an overview of the condition of the railing and to help you take preventative measures in good time, if necessary.
