Materials

Stainless steel is a particularly popular material for stair railings due to its durability and modern look. Stainless steel stair railings can be equipped with glass infills, bars, cables, webs or metal plates. In the case of glass infills, the glass is secured to the railing using glass clamps or glass holders, providing a modern, transparent appearance. A bar infill, on the other hand, consists of slim stainless steel tubes or stainless steel bars that are arranged either horizontally or vertically. This results in an airy design that is both modern and appealing. For a more unique industrial look, cables, webs or metal plates can be mounted to the stair railings.

Glass railings provide another option for achieving a transparent look. These are stair railings where the majority of the railing is made from glass. This results in a particularly modern and elegant look. Handrails made from stainless steel or other materials can also be fitted to glass railings.

1. Distance between the bars: The distance between the bars should be small enough to prevent children from climbing through the railing. 
2. Enclosures: It is important that the stair railing is closed off at both ends to prevent children from climbing through the sides of the railing.
3. Choice of materials: It is recommended that infill materials such as horizontal bars or wire mesh are not used, as they could act as a climbing aid for children. Instead, stair railings should have smooth surfaces, vertical bars or transparent materials such as glass to provide less temptation to climb
4. Supervision: A supervisor can help to prevent children from using the stair railing as a climbing aid.
